To get listed your website is submitted to the search engine that then on a schedule will visit your site and read all of the content and store it in it's database. Once in their database the search engines will rate the content of your site against user searches.

If you site is submitted correctly and includes things like site maps and correctly formed HTML code then you stand a good chance of being included in the results.
